Portugal Express: from Porto to Lisbon
The trip in a nutshell
A trip to Lisbon and a trip to Porto? We combine the two best parts of Portugal in one Express! In five days we immerse ourselves in the streets of the two most famous cities in Portugal . Let's start from Porto , an enchantment of bridges over the river, alleys that open onto magnificent promenades and cellars where you can taste the typical local wine; then we move to Lisbon , the capital, where the landscape is warmed by the sunlight in a way that is unique in the world.
On this Express journey from Porto to Lisbon we do not miss anything: from wine tastings in the cellars of Porto, up to a ride on tram 28 , one of the oldest and most famous in Lisbon. How do we move between these two cities? By bus, obviously: it will be a journey within a journey, which will allow us to admire the Portuguese landscapes from north to south. We'll try the original pasteis de Belem, we'll stop by Cristo Rei for a breathtaking view and then can grab a pint at the end of the day at Barrio Alto. A "hit and run" itinerary in Portugal that will be enough to make us fall madly in love with this country that overlooks the Atlantic.

Itinerary
Welcome to Portugal!
Arriving in Porto
Check-in at the hotel in Porto and grab your welcome drink! Our journey starts off on the right foot...over a good glass of wine! We are in northern Portugal, an area famous for their wine! We will get to taste more good wine tomorrow, at one of the many wineries in the city. For now, here's to the beginning of these days together!
Remember well: you will have to buy the outbound flight to Porto, and the return flight you have to take from Lisbon!
Welcome drink included in the trip fee.
Harry Potter's bookstore and port wine cellars
Harry Potters library
The first thing we absolutely must do this morning is to get on one of the old trams, the history that runs through a now modern city. A short distance from the Torre dos Clerigos on Rua Das Carmelitas and we arrive to visit the Lello and Irmao Bookstore, a location where they filmed some scenes from Harry Potter. It is no coincidence, then, that this is one of the most famous bookstores in the world - it will surely be crowded, but we will find space to snap a quick photo!
Visit to the Port Wine Cellars
At the top of Dos Clerigos Tower we can admire so many glimpses of Porto, the Sé Cathedral, the area holding the wineries, the Duoro River, Palàcio da Bolsa, the Mercado do Bolhao, and the Luis Bridge. After, we must visit one of the Port wine cellars, admiring the Barcos Rabelos, boats where barrels were once put to rest. Bottoms up, let's toast!
Transportation and entrance fees included in the money pot share. Meals and drinks to be paid for by individual participants.
Lisbon: between Belém, the Cristo Rei and the Barrio Alto
Arriving in Lisbon
In the morning we will travel from north to south, to arrive around lunchtime in Lisbon. Here we will spend two intense days exploring the city. We can grab a quick bite to eat and then get ready to visit the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, the Padrão dos Descobrimentos overlooking the Tagus River, and the Belém Tower. Continuing on Av. Brasília we encounter the very famous Monument to the Discoveries, dedicated to the discoveries of Portuguese navigators. Last but not least is a visit to the Cristo Rei, a concrete statue about 80 meters high, inspired by the one in Rio de Janeiro.
Today we will also try famous pasteis de nata - the iconic custard tarts.
Lisbon is also street art! We are, of course, curious to discover the artistic side of the city, and we will do it our way... by tuk tuk!
Time to party!
At Barrio Alto we enter the cheerful fiesta atmosphere: this neighbourhood is perfect for spending an evening in touch with local traditions. The street is sprinkled with steaming grills with sardines to eat over a crisp slice of bread, accompanied by beer flowing.
Bus from Porto to Lisbon and tuk tuk excursion included in the travel fee. Transportation and entrance fees included in the money pot share. Meals and drinks to be paid for by individual participants.
Tram 28 and the historic district of Alfama
Let's experience the city
We begin this day by boarding the world-famous Tram 28 as it winds its way through the city's most characteristic streets. Its route starts at Campo de Ourique and touches Lisbon's most picturesque neighbourhoods until it reaches Praça Martim Moniz.
We spend the second part of the day wandering through the quaint alleys of Alfama, the city's most picturesque and ancient neighbourhood, where most of the houses are pastel-coloured or covered in chipped azulejos. This is also home to the Castillo del S. Jorge and in Largo da Sé, Lisbon's cathedral. After a few free hours, we find ourselves in one of the typical small Portuguese restaurants that will serve as the backdrop for our final dinner, where we take the last selfies and exchange the last jokes...until next time!
Transportation and entrance fees included in the money sharing pot. Meals and drinks to be paid for by individual participants.
Time to say goodbye
Goodbye Portugal!
We have to say goodbye but we are sure this goodbye won't be forever.
Remember: the return flight, unlike the outbound flight, will be from Lisbon!
Please note: The itinerary may undergo some variations that differ from what stated above. These variations may not be predictable nor depend on WeRoad’s will, i.e. climate conditions, national holidays, strikes, etc.
