Itinerary - Vibrant Colombia: from Medellin to Cartagena

Upon arrival, check into our hotel in Medellín and get ready to dive into the vibrant atmosphere of the local culture here. We’ll kick off the tour with a lively dinner, enjoying delicious arepas, fresh ceviche, and, of course, a taste of local rum. Cheers to the start of an unforgettable journey!

Today, we dive into one of Colombia’s most iconic traditions: coffee! After breakfast, we’ll head out on a scenic journey to a local coffee farm just outside Medellín. Upon arrival, we’ll be welcomed with a presentation that will introduce us to the fascinating world of Colombian coffee, showing us the different varieties grown on the farm. We’ll take a guided tour through the lush coffee plantation, where we’ll explore the entire coffee production process, from plant to cup. Learn about the careful cultivation and harvesting techniques that make Colombian coffee world-renowned. 

Next, we visit the processing plant, where we’ll witness how the beans are transformed into the aromatic coffee we all know and love. After the tour, it's time to roll up our sleeves and learn the art of coffee preparation, followed by a delicious tasting session to savor the flavors of freshly brewed Colombian coffee. To fuel up, we'll enjoy a traditional lunch at a local restaurant, offering a taste of authentic Colombian cuisine. This immersive experience will leave us with a deeper appreciation for the country’s rich culture. It's a day of discoveries, flavours, and traditions that we won’t forget!

Today, we embark on a transformative journey through the heart of Medellín with a focus on its remarkable social changes over the last 30 years. After a quick breakfast, we’ll hop into private and public transportation and head to Comuna 13, one of the most iconic areas of the city. Our expert English-speaking guide will lead us through the vibrant streets, where we’ll explore the local communities that have been shaped by resilience and innovation. As we walk around the comuna, we’ll ride the public escalators—an incredible example of how Medellín has improved its public transport system to enhance the lives of its citizens.

Along the way, we’ll see how art, culture, and infrastructure have played key roles in transforming the area, and how these efforts have contributed to the social and economic growth of the city. A typical local snack will be offered during the tour, allowing us to taste some of the region’s delicious flavors while learning about the changes that have made Medellín a model of urban transformation.

In the afternoon, we have some free time to explore the area at our own pace. Whether we want to relax, discover more of the city, or dive into local experiences, the choice is ours to make the most of our day in Medellín!

We start the day by strolling through the charming streets of Guatapé, a vibrant village known for its colorful buildings and intricate zócalos (decorative bas-reliefs). Take in the rich history and beautiful natural landscapes as we wander through the town. Next, visit the iconic Piedra del Peñol, a colossal monolith that rises high above the landscape. Get ready to climb 740 steps to the top, where we are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding lakes and mountains.

Afterward, let’s head to the main pier for a relaxing boat ride on the reservoir, offering a different perspective of this picturesque region. As we glide across the calm waters, we'll have the chance to take in the serene beauty of the lake, where locals enjoy fishing and other water activities. This is a perfect day to soak in the tranquility of the area and enjoy the natural wonders of Colombia!

After breakfast, we’ll board a flight to Cartagena, ready to dive into the vibrant energy of this iconic city. The short flight offers a chance to relax and anticipate the adventures ahead. As we soar over the stunning Colombian landscapes, we have a perfect view of the Caribbean coast and its shimmering waters. Once we arrive, we’ll step into Cartagena, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where colonial charm and history await.

Welcome to Cartagena de Indias! A must-see destination, this captivating city enchants with its cobbled streets, colorful flower-filled balconies, and imposing walls that enclose centuries of rich history. Let’s explore the charming streets and experience the perfect blend of the past and present that make Cartagena so unforgettable. We can also choose to take part in a guided walking tour to dive deeper into the city’s fascinating history or embrace the rhythm of the city with a salsa class, where we’ll learn the iconic moves of Colombia’s vibrant dance culture.

Today, we embark on an unforgettable full-day adventure to the Rosario Islands, a beautiful national park surrounded by coral reefs and crystal-clear blue waters. These islands are home to a stunning variety of marine life, making it a paradise for nature lovers and explorers. The day begins with private transport from our hotel to the pier, where we’ll board a shared boat that will take us on a scenic ride through the waters to the islands. Along the way, our bilingual guide will share fascinating insights about the area's rich biodiversity and history.

Once on the island, we have the chance to explore its three unique ecosystems: the coastal lagoons, lush mangroves, and tropical forest. Let’s get into it, we can snorkel in the warm, clear waters, where we’ll see colorful fish and vibrant coral. Alternatively, we can relax on the beach, soaking up the sun and enjoying the serenity of this natural haven. For lunch, we’ll be treated to a delicious typical meal, showcasing the best local flavors.

After a day full of exploration and relaxation, we’ll return to the pier by boat, and then we’ll be transported back to the hotel, filled with memories of an extraordinary day in paradise. To close out the day (and this trip!), we venture out to enjoy Cartagena's nightlife. We need to wrap things up properly!
