Today we will arrive in Santiago de Compostela, where a transfer will take us to the town of Sarria, the starting point of our Camino journey. Tonight we will have time to meet our fellow "caminantes" (our walking buddies), settle in and explore the charming town of Sarria. We will visit the 13th-century Church of Santa Mariña and the Fortaleza de Sarria, a medieval fortress with scenic views, before heading for our first dinner to kick off this adventure! Sarria to Portomarín
Stage 1
Today is the day your journey begins, buen camino! We will set off early in the morning from Sarria, trekking through verdant forests and Galician villages to make our way to the historic Romanesque town of Portomarín.
Portomarín is a town that has moved due to floodings. In the 1960s a new dam was built which caused the town to be flooded by the Río Miño which resulted in the town being transferred to a nearby hill.
